Cat food "Doctor Klauder": review, composition, manufacturer

As you know, yard cats are less picky about food than expensive and purebred cats. So, having picked up a kitten near a gateway or a trash can, you will have to fuss less than if you buy a baby from a “branded” breeder.

But all this in no way means that the “nobleman” can be fed with anything! Yes, remembering a hungry and unpretentious childhood, such a cat will happily gnaw on both the dry crust of black bread and a raw tomato. Well, and as for cat food, absolutely everything will be accepted, without “burrowing” with paws or squeamish faces. However, is it worth buying everything without looking at the quality, since the cat eats everything and does not refuse? Well, of course not! After all, food differs from food to food, and by saturating your fluffy every day, food can either become the key to a long and happy life for your pet, or make you suffer from urolithiasis and other cat ailments, or even send it to the next world.

So what should you feed your cat, whether it’s purebred or not? There are many answers to this question, just as there are many different foods on store shelves. But you must give your own answer to yourself, and not based on the creations of advertisers of all stripes, but based on the opinions of experienced breeders, cat owners or veterinarians.

In this article we will look at the cat food “Doctor Clouder” (reviews of cat food, composition, and of course, the class of this food).

Range

On the shelves of veterinary stores you can find a large assortment of Doctor Clouder cat food. All products are separated taking into account taste characteristics, age characteristics and other parameters.

  • Premium dry food. This diet can be distinguished by the inscription Premium Cat Food. It contains dry food intended for cats 6 weeks and older. Separately, we can highlight dry food “Dietary Meat” for animals that require calorie restriction or weight loss. Dry croquettes are sold in packages of 400 g and 15 kg (suitable for those with several pets). It is worth noting that the bags do not have a zip fastener, which creates inconvenience during storage.

  • Dr. Clouder wet cat food. This line includes diets in various packaging and volumes: canned food (100 g in three flavor variations), pouches (100 g in seven flavor variations), canned food (415 g tins, nine flavors), pates (200 g tins ).
  • Therapeutic products for pets with special needs (diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, kidneys, liver, those with a tendency to allergies). This series is produced in the form of canned food, packaged in 200 g cans.

Wet food is made from meat and fish components, as well as from offal. This includes Doctor Clouders food with chicken, rabbit, game, shrimp, salmon and tuna, heart and kidney.

Feedback from cat owners about Dr. Clauder's

Veronika Usachova, Krasnodar: My cat is a big fan of food. She eats absolutely everything: fish, meat, cottage cheese, and loves sour cream. Lately, I began to notice that my beauty has somehow “blurred”, become lazy, and doesn’t move much.

When I went to the vet, he told me that she was developing obesity. Of course, I was scared. The doctor advised me to go on a diet and recommended the Dr. Clouder brand for weight loss. Naturally, I was somewhat skeptical about the finished product, but there was no choice.

Having purchased one pack and poured it into a bowl, the cat ate well, which amazed me, because she is a picky eater. Neat, uniform pieces of food disappeared from the bowl at the speed of sound. I started feeding constantly. Two weeks later, I weighed the cat and was happy because she had lost weight. As soon as the weight was restored to normal, I began to take other foods, but of the same brand. I use it all the time now.

Daria Laktionova, Tver: I have two little kittens, they are only two months old. Afraid of not being able to fully cope with the proper nutrition of the babies, I decided to feed them with ready-made food. Realizing that they should grow up healthy, I tried to find food that would be good and appropriate for their age category.

At the pet store I purchased the Dr. Clauder's brand, which is perfectly suitable for small kittens. The first time I bought it in the form of a pate, I was worried that they could chew and swallow well. The kids attacked the food with great appetite, licking their bowls. Then she took it with pieces of meat. Having opened the can, I was pleased with the pleasant aroma, and the meat pieces were drowned in a beautiful-looking sauce. They also devoured this one with pleasure.

I started feeding the kittens constantly with this brand, alternating between wet and dry food. My kittens are growing and developing perfectly, feeling good and healthy.

Ilona Kazakova, St. Petersburg: My cat is already ten years old, and she doesn’t eat very well, and some age-related diseases have begun to constantly appear: she’s suffering from stomach problems, or her kidneys are getting damaged.

The attending veterinarian recommended that I improve my diet, so I went to the store to buy food. Of course, I wanted to find something not so expensive, but not cheap either. The seller, to whom I complained about my cat’s health problems, advised me to buy “Doctor Clouder” for elderly pets.

Having assessed the composition (lots of meat, proteins, fiber) and the price, I decided to take it. The cat ate it well. Over time, she became more cheerful, more active, digestive problems disappeared, and her kidneys were also normal. I think that well done to the manufacturers who produce such food, taking into account the age of the animal.

Super premium dry food

This segment presents dry granules that allow you to take into account the various characteristics of cats. The Super Premium series consists of four types of feed:

  • for elderly and sterilized animals;
  • universal for all breeds;
  • Grain-free food "Doctor Klauder" for cats with sensitive digestion;
  • special diet for pregnant and lactating animals, as well as for kittens.

In addition, the segment includes a treatment series for correcting various health conditions. There is a complete diet, which is available in packages of 400 grams and two kilograms.

It is worth noting that despite the large assortment of Dr. Clauder's, the most popular line of premium diets on the Russian market. They are the ones most often sold in stores, while the super-premium series is found only at certain points of sale.

Where is Doctor Clouder cat food made?

Dr. Clauder's is a German brand of cat and dog food owned by Dr. Clauder GmbH & Co KG. Dry food of this brand is produced at the large (Bosch Tiernahrung), and wet food at the Saturn Petcare factory. The production of cat food is carried out by order of the brand owner. Representatives of the brand in Russia are (Moscow) and “Biosphere” (St. Petersburg).

The founder of the company was nutritionist H. Klauder (Germany). In 1957, production of pet food began. In 1993, this company was recognized as the best European brand. Now the products of Dr. Clauder's GmbH & Co supplies to 50 countries. In addition to Doctor Clouder food, the company also owns other brands (Prima, Ricco, Litina, Best Choice, Hakito, etc.). It's not just food for cats and dogs; This brand produces vitamin and nutritional supplements, as well as animal care products.

In the catalog of the company Dr. Clauder's GmbH & Co has not only food, but also other products for animals

Premium dry food

We will analyze the food in this line using the example of the food “Dr. Clauder's with salmon." Components indicated on the package:

  1. Meat and meat products (chicken). Used as a source of animal protein. The form of the raw material and its specific type are not indicated. But what is more strange is that in the food with salmon, chicken meat is listed first.
  2. Fish and fish products (salmon).
  3. Cereals. The quantity and type are not specified.
  4. Chicken fat. Cheap source of fatty acids.
  5. Vitamins and minerals.

The composition of the product, which the company positions as premium, actually corresponds to the economy version. All ingredients are indicated in general terms only. The percentage is not marked at all. In addition, Doctor Clouder does not add any additional plant additives or extracts to the food, which should enrich the animal’s body with useful substances.

Advantages and disadvantages of Doctor Clouder food

Advantages of Dr. food Clauder's:

  • good selection (there are both dry and wet food - several series) in contrast to the Sheba brands;
  • there is a veterinary line (unlike any economy class food and some premium ones);
  • fresh raw materials were used in production (Arden Grange has a similar advantage);
  • do not contain GMOs, artificial colors and preservatives (unlike Whiskas and Kitekat);
  • correct balance of fats, proteins and carbohydrates;
  • food of any line does not contain impurities and pests;
  • veterinary line food has a good vitamin composition (unlike, for example, Purina One);
  • meets the requirements of the Customs Union, and dry food is recognized by the Roskachestvo system as a quality product;
  • can be found in a simple store (it is more difficult to find Sanabelle, Leonardo, Nature's Best, etc.).

Disadvantages of Doctor Klauder feed:

  • Many foods contain sources of vegetable protein and little meat (more meat in Brit, Acana, Sanabelle, etc.);
  • vague wording in the ingredients: “poultry”, “meat by-products”, etc. (unlike Orijen, Nature's Best, etc.);
  • the exact quantities of all ingredients are not indicated (unlike Leonardo, Orijen and Acana, etc.);
  • small amounts of pesticide (pirimiphos-methyl) were found in dry food;
  • guaranteed indicators do not correspond to reality (unlike the vast majority of super-premium food);
  • food may taste rancid (probably due to high oil content) unlike Sanabelle and Nature's Best;
  • incorrect balance of calcium and phosphorus (in some foods the amount of calcium is higher than normal, as in Purina One).

Not every caring owner knows what pirimiphos-methyl is. Accordingly, a person is not particularly upset if he does not know about the absence of such a pesticide. This toxic organic compound is used to produce chemicals used in agriculture. As a rule, these are means to combat insects and rodents. This poison is sprayed mainly by aerosol method. And the objects of processing can be any warehouses (for example, barns in which cereals or vegetables are stored). The chemical is soluble in organic solutions, so a small part of it can also end up in cat food. Despite this, Doctor Clouder food is considered high quality by European standards.

Pirimiphos-methyl is a poison used to control rodents

Wet food

Let's look at the composition of a wet diet using the example of Doctor Klauder canned food with game. The following components are indicated on the packaging:

  • Meat and animal by-products (game min. 4%). The source of animal protein is the only sign that indicates that the canned food belongs to the premium class.
  • Cereals. It is not specified which ones.
  • Plant protein extracts. It is not specified which ones.
  • Minerals.
  • Sugar. An ingredient harmful to cats, leading to obesity, arthritis, diabetes, and tooth decay.

Unfortunately, the composition does not reach the premium level. It would be fair to classify this product as an economy segment.

Composition analysis

Cat food Dr. Clauder's is represented by several lines that differ significantly in composition, so it would be fair to consider samples of each of them separately. Traditionally, a conclusion about the quality of cat food is made by analyzing the first 5 components, so we will analyze them.

Premium dry food

We will analyze the composition of the premium line using the example of Dr. complete drying. Clauder's with salmon. Components that appear on the package:

  • Meat and meat products (chicken).
  • Cereals.
  • Fish and fish products (salmon).
  • Chicken fat.
  • Minerals and vitamins.

The first component is used as an animal source of protein. But, firstly, the specific type and form of raw materials is not indicated, and secondly, it looks at least strange that in a product with salmon, chicken is listed in first place, while the component that gives it its name is only in third place. Although the total amount of protein is sufficient, most of it is likely to come from products of unknown quality (including waste from slaughterhouses) rather than pure fresh meat. The second component is cereals without specifying their quantity and type. The source of fatty acids is a fairly cheap component - chicken fat.

Thus, the composition of the product, which the manufacturer positions as premium, is comparable to economy class. The components are indicated only in general terms; their percentages are not marked at all. In addition, the manufacturer does not use any additional plant extracts or additives that should enrich the pet’s body with useful substances.

Wet food

Let's analyze the composition of wet food using Dr. canned food as an example. Clauder's with game. The following ingredients are listed on the tin:

  • Meat and animal by-products (game min. 4%).
  • Cereals.
  • Plant protein extracts.
  • Minerals.
  • Sugar.

Judging by this composition, the only sign that indicates that the canned food belongs to the premium class is the indication in the first place of the source of animal protein. But the manufacturer is silent about specific parts and types of meat, as well as their percentage. In addition, the cereals used and unknown protein plant extracts remain a mystery to the buyer.

The sugar indicated in the composition usually serves to improve the taste and appearance of the canned food, giving it a brownish tint. But this component is harmful to cats and leads to arthritis, obesity, tooth decay and diabetes.

Thus, the set of such components does not reach the premium level at all. Despite the Premium Cat Food label on the can, it can fairly be called economy class.

Super premium dry food

Let's analyze the composition of the super-premium line using the example of grain-free Dr. Clauder's Adult Grainfree. The first 5 components of the composition:

  • Chicken meat (18%).
  • Potato flour.
  • Chicken flour (15%).
  • Potato flakes.
  • Animal fats (beef and chicken).

In the first position is the source of animal protein - chicken meat, but without specifying its specific parts. Potato flour and potato flakes are different forms of potatoes. This is a good source of complex carbohydrates and fiber, more beneficial for the cat's body than allergenic grains. But even its presence in large quantities is undesirable, and in Dr. Clauder's Adult Grainfree it occupies 2 of the first five components. In addition, potato flour is one of the cheapest analogues of potatoes with a minimum of nutrients, which should not be used in high-quality feed.

Animal fats (beef and chicken), as well as rendered lard, flax seed, and fish oil, are used as a source of fatty acids. Additionally, the product is enriched with useful additives and plant extracts to maintain cat health.

Thus, Dr.Clauder's super-premium drying product has a more balanced composition compared to the rest of the brand's products. But the presence of a large amount of potatoes raises additional questions.

Super premium dry food

Let us analyze the composition of this series using the example of grain-free cat food “Doctor Clouder Adult Grainfree”. First five elements:

  • Chicken meat (18%). Source of animal protein (it is not specified which parts of the chicken the product is made from).
  • Potato flour. A good source of fiber and carbohydrates, as are the cereals below. But the presence of this component in larger quantities is harmful to the animal.
  • Chicken flour (15%).
  • Potato flakes.
  • Animal fats (chicken and beef). Source of fatty acids.

Additionally, the food is enriched with plant extracts and useful additives to maintain the health of your pet. It is worth noting that the super-premium dry diet is more balanced in relation to other Doctor Clouder products. Yet it raises additional questions due to the presence of a large amount of potato component.

Reviews from veterinarians

The main range of food for cats by Dr. Clouders is approximately in the same niche with the products of Whiskas, KiteKat and similar brands, so veterinarians are quite wary of such food and often recommend giving preference to more balanced and high-quality food for pets. Veterinarians do not recommend giving a diet with unknown components and a small amount of animal protein to cats, much less using it on an ongoing basis.
